Hey!!
Been a minute, just wanted to update you all. I’ve been on a weird semi-intentional hiatus since i got covid at the end of December. I’ve spent some of my time off working on other projects including music, fine art, merch, and remembering how to be a person.
Part of my time off in the winter is due to the standard of my studio building. My studio is in a hundred-year-old industrial manufacturing building thats essentially being rented to artists and bands until Yale offers to buy it to turn into fancy off-campus housing. The heat doesn’t work outside of my room, the bathrooms are cold and kinda gnarly, and now on top of that, the freight elevator is broken! cool!!
I am always trying to make my practice as accessible to everyone as it possibly can be—physically, emotionally, and financially. The idea of having clients travel often multiple hours to walk up 5 flights and use a frigid bathroom does not fall into this goal whatsoever. I’m not a business, I don’t have studiomates or coworkers besides Nicholas who helps me with booking, so i’m kind of at the mercy of the resources i have access to. Real estate being one of those resources, and a scarce one at that in my area.
So, what’s my plan around this? I don’t really know lol. I’m planning to do more traveling this year, hopefully to places with better facilities. I’m also hoping to move to a better-suited studio space that is actually accessible to everyone. This also could change, the building manager is purportedly planning to fix the elevator, and once we’re out of winter the building becomes much more hospitable (my room itself is always clean and comfortable, the hallways and bathrooms are a diff story).
In the meantime, if you’re kinda raw and able to climb stairs and are comfortable in slightly cutty locations, I’ll be looking forward to booking with you. Think of it like you’re visiting my fine arts studio to engage in a new form of experimental, conceptual body art, or we’re “subverting the traditional tattoo shop model” 😀
To those of you who aren’t able to climb stairs, I promise i’m figuring this out asap. It may have to wait or we’ll find a spot to work that is accessible.
To those of you for whom this is a dealbreaker, i 100% get it. Bear with me and maybe we can book once the situation is better.
IN OTHER NEWS:
I’m still running my monthly raffle for NHHF, the link for which is on my website. If you win its a great way to be guaranteed a spot once i start booking! It’s also really important to get people survival resources right now, it being winter.
I have yet to contact the winners of the Dec and Jan drawings but i’ll be doing that this week. I’ll also be updating it to include a handmade piece of non-tattoo wearable art for non-locals and whoever else would prefer that to a tattoo.
OK THATS ALL tysm for reading this if you did i love you all, sending out booking forms soon and in the meantime check my website and send it to your coolest friends!!
freakin peace!!!
